I love the book- and have read it 6 times. It’s one of those books that just hits you hard and stays with you. So of course I was excitied for the movie. I saw it last night and was extremely disappointed. It’s like they took half the book and threw it out the window and tried to make a movie out of the remains. There was no emotion! Henry DeTamble is one of my favorite literary characters of all time because of his struggle and the depth of his emotions throughout the book. Eric Bana was a shallow pool when he should have been an ocean. It was just awful. They left out cruital character development & charaters (no ingrid & no kimmy!) and also some of the best parts- clare and henry when clare was a little girl- the party, when henry beats up the boy, NOTHING! Also my favorite part- when clare takes henry home for christmas and you get to know clare and her family really well- her crazy mother. Overall the movie failed to convey the emptiness henry felt before clare and the joy she brought to his life. I also think that the magically aspect of clare growing up with henry was missing as well. Basically, everything was wrong. Even the gutwretching ending was traded in for a lame goodbye scene between clare and henry. I didn’t cry and I wanted to cry.

I haven’t read the book and I actually thought the movie might be a remake of ‘Portrait of Jenny’ from 1948. It has the same kind of theme; A man keeps running into the same girl who appears to be catching up to him in age, far too quickly. Not quite the same but haunting. I hope you’re not disappointed!!

Well, I hated the book. It’s completely anti-feminist: she just waits for him, over and over. Never goes off to live her own life, just goes along with what he tells her of the future. Not to mention the inappropriate behavior: when he appears to her as a child, he’s arguably “grooming” her for their later relationship.

I haven’t heard any buzz yet on this movie. I love Rachel McAdams, so I’m hoping it’s good. I liked the book quite a bit too.

I loved the Time Traveller’s Wife, but am somewhat apprehensive about the film. I know it just won’t capture the book, nor the film that plays in my mind when I read it. Still, perhaps they film makers will have found a little something different to add to it.

I’ve read it once a year since 2003 too, how funny. And ooh I’m so with you, sister… I’m almost scared to see it in case it ruins the book for me forever. But I can’t imagine NOT going to see it. Oh the dilemma!

Well I haven’t read the book but you have me thoroughly intrigued and as soon as I can I will run out to get a copy. The memorial on your fridge…well how beautiful is that? I hope that someone feels that way about me when I am gone. I can’t wait to go see the movie now too…if I can hold off until then maybe I will see you guys at Silvercity!

That copy may or may not be sitting on my bedside table in Calgary.

But I’ll have you know that I have read it no less than five times in the past year.

And have recommended it to (forced it upon?) many, many people.
