Whatcha wanna do versus whatcha GOTTA do….

All for the man I love!  What I really want to do tonight is

…Work on the jean jacket styling jacket I am currently working on.  I am using this Jalie pattern

and this great 100% cotton twill(ish) fabric that I picked up at Elegance Fabrics in Vancouver when I was there last May.

This photo shows the right side (on the left ironically) and the wrong side (that would be on the right).

I hemmed and hawed for a year trying to decide on the pattern and whether to use both sides as features. As in welts or flaps.   In the end I am doing a simple jean jacket with flat felled seams that looks absolutely great on the inside too.  So there.

BUT TO GET TO THE WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO…

fix coveralls.  a mountain of them.  a mountain so big I may never get to blog again. or sew anything fun.  or sleep.

You get the picture!

You see it is my beloved’s birthday tomorrow.  Sure he gets a new barbeque, and we and all the kids and significant others (sans you my darling Erica- sorry bout your luck!) are going to a Jay’s game in Toronto tomorrow.  I wanted to do something special for My Mike that was something only I could give him.  He always says to people- “Connie sews.  But she only sews incredibly elaborate creations.  So we work in ripped coveralls with broken zippers”

“But honey,” I say, rolling my eyes as only a wife can do, “coveralls are boorring.  And you only catch them on a nail the second I fix them”.  I can say that because I always grab the good ones!

So, in honour of his birthday- one year short of an important one- I have dedicated this week of sewing to coveralls.  No more lost pens. Or MP3 players.  No more whining about pockets with holes. No more lost semen - TUBES – tubes of semen! Come on people we are farmers. And farmers breed their animals. Get your mind out of the gutter! haha.   Then again, no more exposed skin- hey wait I liked that part!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DARLING!

I can totally relate…

The coveralls and overalls (with long zippers from waist to hem) at our farm are the dingiest looking things you’ve ever seen.

So, do you fix them or are you sewing them from scratch? I keep thinking I’ll have to do the latter at some point since my dh has such a short leg inseam.

Replacing zippers? Mending holes? I’d love some photos and how-to info, if you have time.

I’m pretty sure I’d get a LOT of points for doing what you’re doing. Maybe for Father’s Day? Or our wedding anniversary? Or even Christmas. :D

What a nice wife you are! I’m sure he and the girl cows/sheep/pigs will appreciate it.

But get on that jacket! I am DYING to see it now that you’ve flashed the fabric and pattern.

Right… breeding :) What a sweet gift!

When I got my new sewing machine, I told my DH I couldn’t mend his jeans any more…too hard on the equipment. ;-)

I bet he’ll really appreciate this. How about putting your jacket fabric at the bottom of the pile so that every pair gets you closer? ;) Beautiful fabric btw.

I love that jean jacket, almost bought the pattern a month or so ago. Will enjoy watching yours come together!

BTW, I just tagged you :-) Got book?

I lost a ring because of a hole in a coverall pocket. :(
Does dad really say “incredibly elaborate creations???”

You’re FUNNY, Connie!! Enjoy the birthday–one year short of an important one–together!! (In the pic, he looks 35!!)
Warm greetings,

Rhonda, I think he *was* about 35 when that was taken! I remember shingling that roof, I was still a kid :)

What a wonderful gift! Sounds like you both are very lucky and very loved! :)
But I can totally relate – whenever I tell people that I sew, they always bring up hemming pants or replacing buttons and I say, “That’s mending. Mending sucks. Sewing is a blast!”
Have a wonderful birthday celebration! :)
